Philippe Coutinho stance on Man Utd or Chelsea move amid Nou Camp woes

Philippe Coutinho has struggled at Barcelona ever since joining from Liverpool in January 2017, leading to talk he could be set for a Premier League return.

Express Sport understands Manchester United have enquired about signing the Brazil international at the end of the season.

Chelsea are also considering a move for Coutinho, who could be their marquee replacement for Eden Hazard should the Belgian jump ship to Real Madrid.

Reports have claimed Coutinho is unhappy at Barcelona, especially under the management of Ernesto Valverde.

However, the Daily Mail say the 26-year-old has no interest in a Premier League return.

For now, at least.

Barcelona invested big on Coutinho 13 months ago and would no doubt be reluctant to let such a big player jump ship so far.

The Daily Mail say that there are concerns on the player’s side.

But, for now, his future appears to still lie at Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has ruled out cutting Coutinho loose.

“Are we going to consider the sale of Coutinho? No,” he said.

“It’s a club bet,” Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu told El Partidazo de COPE.

“He plays differently, he knows how we play, we do not want to sell Coutinho.”

Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov also believes Coutinho should resist United and Chelsea to stay put.

“Barca isn’t an easy club and during my first few months there, I suffered like you,” he said in an open letter to Coutinho.

“I know how it feels when things aren’t turning out how you want, but I’m convinced that with hard work and sacrifice you’ll move forward because you have all the quality you need to do that.

“You are one of the best foreign players to have played for Barca.

“You’ve got a lot of football in you to give Barca and the only thing you should be thinking about is enjoying your game.

“Enjoy it like you do with Brazil. I tried to enjoy playing like I always did with Bulgaria and I ended up enjoying myself exactly the same with Barca.

“Never let yourself be disheartened because, from what I’ve seen, the fans are with you and want to see you succeed.

“Understand that they’re the best fans in the world and they’ll support you always – like they did with me.”
